bmp- ico ) one such free service, but there are others). Most people do not have a such an application or command that will allow them to convert bmp to ico, but there are free online tools that will do this for you. Now that you have a bit map you need to convert the bitmap (bmp ) file to an icon (ico) file. You can do this with paint and crop the image to just be the GMAIL image without the GMAIL text after it.

You'll need to edit that bitmap because that bitmap not only contains the GMAIL image, but it also contains the word GMAIL, which you probably don't want. What I did was to open up gmail, right click on the GMAIL image that you see and select save picture as. That said, for what you're doing here, you can probably get by with one sized icon. They are from small to extra-extra large icon. The difference is that the bitmaps are different in size. All the bitmaps in the ico file should be for the same icon. An ico files is a file that contains one or more bitmaps. Making you own icon is a lot more difficult.
